Hot start to the New Year

Three days into the New Year, we've had bushfires, soaring temperatures, and draconian police responses to young Aboriginal people getting pissed-off at over-policing. Not an auspicious start to 2006.

Thankfully, there has been no major seismic tragedy and Greenpeace has declared some success in their battle against the whalers in the Southern ocean!

Don't eat whale, don't lock-up young people in jail, and don't light fires on hot days in Australia. How often do we need to be reminded of these simple but profound lessons to make this new year a good one?

Happy New Year, all!
